About the role

To source and create news content for the Barbour service. Monitor and research industry activity, legislative and official guidance changes and report on these.  To assist with the summarising of UK and global legislation relating to health, safety, environment and energy. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the health, safety and environment sectors, including legal governance and compliance. To produce content in line with Barbour standards relating to quality, accuracy, coverage and the fulfilment of user expectations. To work to production deadlines.      

What you’ll be getting up to

  • Sourcing and identifying news, prosecutions and document content for coverage, on a weekly basis. Content should be relevant, topical and of interest to our subscriber base.
  • Writing news content, encompassing prosecutions, news and summarising reports, guidance and consultations. Covering the services health and safety, environment, energy and international.  For publication basis will vary between daily and weekly.
  • Summarise UK and Irish legislation relating to health, safety, environment, and energy topics. Work to a defined template outlining the extent of summary coverage.
  • Research legislative topics and become familiar with official sources of guidance.  
  • Research and gain an understanding of legislation, and associated guidance, for a range of countries. 
  • Review, assess and verify content produced by other writers.    
  • Manage the summary production process via a bespoke CMS.
  • To categorise content to pre-defined service specific taxonomies via a bespoke CMS.           
  • Ensure the correctness, accuracy, usability and clarity of news and summary content.  
  • To work to and define production deadlines and be comfortable working under pressure.

  • Salary: £27,000 per annum
  • Location: Hybrid at our Tyne and Wear Office (DH3 2TB) - must be willing to travel to this location for training purposes on occasion.
